Terug in Rotterdam

1980-1992

In 1980 vestigde ik mij weer in Rotterdam, de stad waarin ik geboren en getogen ben.

Vanaf 1981 maakte ik deel uit van de BKR, de beeldend kunstenaarsregeling. De BKR stelde mij in staat werk te produceren en mijn beroepspraktijk te verbeteren.

Naoorlogse esthetiek

Het werk dat ik voor de regeling maakte was deels bestemd voor de Artotheek van Rotterdam en een ander deel ging naar het Rijk.

Ik maakte hedendaagse Rotterdamse stadsgezichten, olieverf op linnen of paneel, eenvoudige kleurvlakken met een krachtige tekening in een stijl die goed paste bij het naoorlogse Rotterdam.

Debuut-tentoonstelling

In 1986 had ik mijn debuut-tentoonstelling in mijn vaderstad samen met collega kunstenaars Krisia Peka en Harry van der Woerd in Galerie NRP, Nieuw Rotterdams Peil.

Deze mooie galerie was gevestigd in Metrostation Oostplein en Hetty Bruijs was er de hartelijke gastvrouw.

Buiten aquarelleren

Mijn grote olieverven bleken op de vrije markt niet makkelijk te verkopen en daarom besloot ik kleiner en lichtvoetiger werk te maken dat meer mensen zou kunnen aanspreken.

Ik reed rond met mijn bestelbusje en maakte ter plekke aquarellen van de havens, scheepswerven enz. rondom Rotterdam.

De aquarellen hadden allemaal dezelfde afmeting en ik lijstte ze netjes in met passe-partout en alu-wissellijst 50x65 cm.

De aquarellen deden het goed en vormden bovendien een mooi tegengewicht voor de olieverfschilderijen tijdens mijn exposities.
